Rosarium of Music ’25: Beethoven and Josephine

Step outside Bratislava and discover the romantic Dolná Krupá Mansion, linked to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. Rosarium of Music offers a day of culture, history and chamber music.

A love story in music

Step beyond Bratislava and discover the romantic atmosphere of Dolná Krupá Mansion, one of the finest examples of rural Classicist architecture in Slovakia. Surrounded by a historic park with the country’s largest rosarium, the castle is closely linked with Ludwig van Beethoven, who often visited the aristocratic Brunsvik family. According to tradition, it was here that he composed the famous Moonlight Sonata.

On this special day, the freshly restored mansion will come alive with a rich afternoon programme and an evening chamber concert by world-class musicians. The event is dedicated to Beethoven’s close relationship with Josephine Brunsvik, documented in fifteen preserved love letters.


Afternoon experiences (14:00 – 17:30)

  • Guided tour of the castle with curators of the Slovak National Museum – Music Museum, enriched with theatrical elements

  • Walk through the historical park with a costumed guide

  • Readings from Beethoven’s correspondence (Silvia Soldanová)

  • Performance by Rumi Quartet

  • Visit to Beethoven’s Memorial House

  • Wine tasting with Terra Parna Winery

Relax in the park’s chill-out zone with beanbags and picnic blankets.


Evening concert (18:00 – 20:00)

  • Beethoven: String Trio in G major, op. 9/1

  • Schumann: Piano Quintet in E-flat major, op. 44

  • Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 32 in C minor, op. 111

Performers: Natacha Kudritskaya (piano), Mi-Sa Yang (violin), Michaela Hrubá (violin), Martin Ruman (viola), Jozef Lupták (cello).

  • Shuttle bus: free transfer “Krupanská fčela” from Trnava Railway Station (13:15, 15:15), return at 20:00.
