The Comedy of Errors

It’s gonna be really lively in here. And with some shooting as well

Shakespeare, even in his shortest play, transcends the boundaries of traditional genres. At first, it looks like a tragedy (at the very beginning, one of the characters is facing the death penalty), but soon the play gets to the position of a farce. In particular, the master and servant dialogues are lessons in what a modern circus clownada might look like.

A farce about two sibling pairs – identical twins offers not only a dizzying pace of twists and turns and fun, but also an ingenious play with opposites and paradoxes, which the author has always mastered. He also developed a brilliant reflection on the relationships between man and woman, the importance of their love and respect in thiy play. “In a way, the Comedy of Errors is a crazy carousel of losses and finds,” says shakespearean Martin Hilský.

Director Roman Polák was also inspired to stage this play and its comic grotesqueness in the era of silent film – the black and white scene and costumes will be underlined by a live pianist.

The Comedy of Errors will be given daily during the Summer Shakespeare Festival from July 29 to August 2. Performances in the courtyard of the Bratislava Castle start at exactly half past nine in the evening and with a break lasting approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes.
