Yann Tiersen

Yann Tiersen is known for his emotional and minimalist compositions that combine classical, folk, and electronic music. He is also known to audiences as the composer of the soundtracks for the films Amélie and Good Bye, Lenin! He will perform again in Bratislava after eleven years on February 27, 2026, at the Majestic Music Club.

During his solo tour of European countries, he will present his new album Rathlin from a Distance / The Liquid Hour, which carries a strong ecological message. During the Bratislava concert, Tiersen will be accompanied by British musician Alice Boyd, who will open the show with a solo set of folk, ambient, and experimental sounds. Boyd uses layered vocals, synthesizers, live loops, and her own field recordings collected throughout the UK and beyond.

Yann Tiersen’s latest album, Rathlin from a Distance / The Liquid Hour, is inspired by his sea voyage, which began in 2023. During this voyage, he performed concerts and traveled through Ireland, the Faroe Islands, Shetland, Scotland, Wales, and Cornwall. In the summer of 2025, he even added the Arctic to his list. He brought his music to unique places and intimate settings, creating genuine connections with local crews and organizers. Tiersen himself calls the voyage an experiment because he focused primarily on interactions with people, art, and exchange. It was more than just a tour. He was striving for a sustainable way of life and work.

The album, which was created during the trip, is divided into two interconnected parts, each with its own unique sound characteristics, combining introspective piano compositions with expressive electronics. Each of the compositions is linked to a specific place he visited. The first part, Rathlin from a Distance, reflects inner transformation and the calm of the sea, while the second part, The Liquid Hour, reflects energy, anger, but also hope, a call for authenticity, connection, and change in the world. The album is intended for anyone who feels the desire to return to themselves, to their true self, and to free themselves from social expectations and the pressures of the outside world.

Tiersen’s work is constantly evolving towards experimentation and nature. In times of climate crisis, he is transforming the way musicians travel and create. He is redefining the way concerts are performed and questioning established norms. Instead of large tours with spectacular productions, he sets off on his own in his van, often with only his dog, or on his sailboat. He avoids hotels and connects his music with the landscapes and communities he visits along the way.

He has won numerous awards for his work, including the César Award from the French Film Academy for Best Music for the film Amélie from Montmartre and the German Film Academy Award for Best Music for the film Good Bye, Lenin!
