The Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox. As the most important Christian holiday it is rich in customs and traditions. For Christians, Easter is the most important holiday of the religious year. Celebrated in the same time as pagan celebrations symbolizing the end of winter and arrival of spring, many customs from the pre-Christian period remained being mixed together with the Christian ones.

In traditional folk culture, the Easter holidays were associated with the customs linked with the arrival of spring, many of which were also adopted by Christianity. This includes the dedication of greenery on the Palm Sunday, the dedication of water during the Holy Saturday ceremonies, the lighting of a fire on the Holy Saturday and the sanctification of food on the Easter Sunday. Water, greenery, fire, eggs are therefore ancient symbols of spring. The old holiday days after the first full moon after the spring equinox are celebrated in the moving period from 22 March to 25 April.
