“Das grosse Lalula”

4th concert of the Ensemble in Residence of Radio Devín – QUASARS ENSEMBLE

Quasars Ensemble brings a „sound soiree” of Slovak premieres of contemporary foreign authors – Morris Kliphuis (NL), Zbigniew Bargielski (PL) and Orestis Papaioannou (GR) to the stage. Their work will be „encased” by songs by the Slovak composer Ilja Zeljenka. Morris Kliphuis is connecting a seldom combination of a performer and author with his experience from the sphere of Jazz and classical music. Zbigniew Bargielski in turn belongs to the renowned contemporary Polish composers, his name is mentioned in the European cultural context. Orestis Papaioannou is a young author, who found response mainly through his triumph at the prominent Krzysztof Penderecki International Composers’ Competition in the year 2018.

The title of the poem „Das grosse Lalula” from the anthology Galgenlieder served not only as the title of the 4th concert of the season. The piece is often presented as an example of „sound poetry“. The author of the poem is the German poet and publicist Christian Morgenstern. Several composers responded to the acoustic language of the phonetic plays, in which this kind of poetry is rich. Also the Slovak author Ilja Zeljenka found inspiration in it.
