Blue Frankish and Bratislava Wines Festival

The Blue Frankish Wine and Bratislava Wines Festival brings the local winemaking tradition back to the city centre. On July 26th, Františkánske Square will become a meeting point for the best wines from Rača, Vajnory, and Nové Mesto.

Blue Frankish: The Wine of Bratislava’s History

Bratislava remains one of the few European capitals where vineyards are still part of the cityscape. Historically, the vineyards stretched from Devín to Vajnory, shaping the local landscape for centuries.

Blue Frankish – known locally as frankovka modrá – is the flagship variety of the region. Rača’s Blue Frankish became famous far beyond the city, and during the coronation festivities of Hungarian kings, it even flowed from Bratislava’s fountains as part of the celebrations. This unique ritual made the city renowned throughout the monarchy.

A Tradition Revived

The Blue Frankish Wine Festival and Bratislava Wines returns to the city centre to preserve the winemaking heritage of Bratislava for future generations. And when better then during the Bratislava Coronation Days.

What to Expect

Visitors will have the chance to taste local wines directly from the winemakers of Rača, Vajnory, and Nové Mesto. In addition to Blue Frankish, other typical varieties of the Small Carpathian region will be available. The culinary experience will be complemented by local specialities prepared by Bufet DREAMS.

Why Blue Frankish?

Blue Frankish is the most typical red variety of the Small Carpathian region. Known for its fruity aromas and elegant tannins, it represents the terroir of Bratislava’s vineyards. Historically, it was served at imperial courts and during local coronation ceremonies.
