Čekovská and Gubajdulina in a production by Juraj Valčuha
Concerts by the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Juraj Valčuha, a Slovak conductor of international renown, are a major event and celebration at Bratislava’s Reduta concert hall. In the current 77th season, two concert programs will be performed under his baton – on January 15 and 16 and March 26 and 27, 2026.
The January duo offers an interesting program – works by two female composers – a new symphonic opus by Ľubica Čekovská, a violin concerto by Sofia Gubaidulina, and the Organ Symphony by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. On Thursday and Friday, January 15 and 16, 2026, the Slovak Philharmonic will welcome our most sought-after Slovak conductor Juraj Valčuha, who currently serves as music director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra in the United States, to the conductor’s podium.

Three works will be performed in this production. A significant event will be the Slovak premiere of a new symphonic opus by Ľubica Čekovská, one of the most talented figures of her generation. The Slovak premiere will also feature Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 2 In tempus praesens by Sofia Gubaidulina, a Russian composer of Tatar origin who has lived in Germany for the past 30 years. The program will conclude with Symphony No. 3 in C minor, Op. 78, by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The composer wrote it in 1886 and dedicated it to the memory of Franz Liszt.
