Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno

Anton Bruckner worked for long years as organist in the abbey St. Florian near Linz. Therefore he was always very close to sacred music, what is proven by some settings of the Ordinary of the Mass, his organ music and the consequently elaborated Motets a cappella. The activities of Petr Řezníček are tied to the excellent ensemble of the Brno Madrigal Choir. Also in the period of time, when sacred music was unwelcome, Řezníček wrote the pieces Magnificat, Ignis Aeternus and Variations on the sequence Dies Irae, which reached great echo in history, and the Hradec Králové-born composer contributed also with his work to its revitalization. The composer and choirmaster Petr Fiala is the founder of the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno (1990), so his compositional aims are connected directly with this successful ensemble. Leoš Janáček did not move very often in the sphere of sacred music, however his suggestive Our Father is today a much frequented choral work; the masterful polyphony unites with Janáček’s famous abbreviated motifs in an inimitable whole.
