Fibich, Suchoň, Janáček

Zdeněk Fibich – first celebrated, later forgotten, currently – it seems so – discovered once again. The performance of the Comenius Festive Ouverture is a rarity; in the introduction Fibich quotes in terms of Bedřich Smetana a Choral from the Hymn Book of the Czech thinker and pedagogue. The expressive Cantata Psalm of the Subcarpathian Land by Eugen Suchoň is until today one of the highlights of musical production in the modern history of Slovakia. Leoš Janáček uncovered a totally new position in the context of Czech and Moravian musical culture. He ignored the naive national awakening and activated the soul of the human and his musical world. The stress on human speech, its spontaneous affectivity, the folk song, the dance stood in the centre of interest of the Moravian author. His poetic credo culminated in the impressive Sinfonietta with fascinating orchestration of brass instruments in the introduction and in the finale.
