Katarína Bajkayová: Prunus Persica

Objects presenting the transformation of materials provide an opportunity for intimate attunement to the creation of space for caring for life. The modeling and shine of the glaze share the pleasure of creation with their sensuality. Ceramics and porcelain are widely represented in the artist’s hands, from free to functional objects, both durable and fragile. Deep reliefs refer to works in public spaces, raising questions about the situation of today’s female artists. After drying, ceramic clay retains traces of touch, of moments. Through firing, the hollow created by the palm becomes a permanent part of everyday life or the existence of the object. The glaze reflects the world around it, bringing critical potential. Similar to the prologue to the 2022 exhibition, it also includes a booklet of texts by environmentalist and climate activist Zuzana Jarošová, special educator Klaudia Husárová, visual artist Alex Selmeci, and the exhibition’s author.

Katarína Bajkayová (1994) completed her doctoral studies at the Faculty of Arts of the Technical University in Košice, where she also completed her master’s degree in the Studio of Free 3D Creativity. She focuses on creating spatial installations from ceramics in combination with other materials. She is currently interested in the themes of social relations, housing, and eroticism, which she explores in the context of natural sciences, mythology, architecture, and literature.
