One Day Jazz Festival

(Not only) the one-day festival of jazz will start again open-air at the Bratislava Castle

This year’s One Day Jazz Festival will open its stages as early as the end of June. Even in today’s world, its priorities remain unchanged, but some are coming to the fore.

In the name of humanism and tolerance, Chris Potter, David Sánchez, Etienne Charles, Warren Wolf, Edward Simon Matt Brewer, Kendrick A.D. Scott, Martin Luther McCoy, Gretchen Parlato, John Shannon, Peter Slavov, Peter Lipa, Martin Valihora, Kristína Mihaľová, Ruslan Sirota, Matúš Jakabčic, Dan Bárta, Piotr Wyleżoł, David Dorůžka, Kornél Fekete Kovács, Daniele Camarda and members of the symphonic Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at the Bratislava Castle.

The legendary group Waking vision will open the festival on June 22 at 6 pm. in the courtyard of the Bratislava Castle. This time, however, not only with a new repertoire, but also in a new line-up with the Grammy winner, originally a Ukrainian pianist, Ruslan Sirot. During the joint performance with the Slovak Chamber Orchestra, Ruslan’s new composition Noir, dedicated to Ukraine, will also be premiered.

The concert will continue with the performance of Matúš Jakabčic CZ SK Big Band, which will be joined by top soloists Peter Lipa and Dan Bárta. This time it will not be “just” about singing, they will also be in the role of godfathers of the new album.

After the christening ceremony, the stage will belong to the international group Voice of Colours, whose members are the best instrumentalists and soloists from the V4 countries and Italy. The just mentioned Visegrad Four is crucial in this project, as it is a grouping that was created at the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic within the Slovak Presidency in V4.

The culmination of the whole evening will be the performance of the elite group SFJAZZ Collective from San Francisco, which is known for its efforts to capture the essence of what is currently happening in jazz through the original arrangements of individual members. You will be able to listen to the whole concert live on the JAZZ Radio and this year, thanks to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, it will be possible to watch the stream in eight selected European countries, Israel and USA.

From Bratislava, the festival will set out on the tour around Slovakia. On 23 June it will be in Košice, 24 June in Modra, 26 June in Prešov, 28 June in Žilina and 1 July in Kremnica.

One Day Jazz Festival is currently one of the leading international festivals, which have both a peculiarity and a tradition. The current summer project creates opportunities for the creative community of musicians and artists to be further implemented. Its aim is to create space for the Slovak domestic scene to work and evolve. It focuses on helping people in culture and, above all, a group of domestic artists in the post-pandemic period.
