Comfortable and Smart in Bratislava

Sign up for free WiFi and buy a tram ticket, or rent a yellow bicycle.

Explore the city with an app that gives you all the information you need on top attractions, sights and restaurants in Bratislava. Visit modern districts designed by world-renowned architects or exceptional galleries. There, you will not only come across top art, but also delicious wine and culinary specialties.

“Thanks to smart solutions, we managed to do more and visited places where we wouldn’t otherwise go,” said German student Paul Neuman, who visited Bratislava with his friends. Neuman was sitting on a smart bench on the Primate’s Square, charging his mobile phone and looking on an offline map for a nearby restaurant for a delicious lunch.

If you have a smart phone with the Android operating system, you can download the official city application under the name Bratislava. For iOS phones, look for Bratislava City. The app provides not only an offline map and information about the attractions, but also suggests the best restaurants, cafés, bars and shops in the area. It also notifies users of events taking place in the city.

Bratislava’s beauty reaches new heights

You can also rent an electric bicycle, scooter or electric car in addition to the yellow bicycles. These alternative forms of transport will allow you to visit new districts that are mushrooming in Bratislava more easily.

Start off the day by heading to Riverpark, a modern multifunctional development on the Danube promenade, which is also one of the best addresses in Bratislava’s centre. From there, cross the Danube River via the SNP Bridge to the modern Aupark shopping centre next to the oldest public park in central Europe, Sad Janka Kráľa.

During your return to the city centre via the Old Bridge, enjoy views of the modern district lining the opposite bank. You’ll be able to see the new travertine-panelled building of the Slovak National Theatre and the Eurovea shopping centre. Here you will find not only the most fashionable brands, but you can also refresh yourself in cafés or restaurants on the pleasant promenade on the Danube bank overlooking Bratislava Castle.

Just a few steps from Eurovea, the elliptical residential towers of Sky Park continue to develop. They were designed by the British architectural studio of the prominent architect Zaha Hadid. Near them on the largest construction site in central Europe, the ultramodern bus station combined with a shopping mall and a relaxing green roof area is growing rapidly. The administrative building called Nivy Tower will be a part of the bus station.

After its completion in 2020 at a height of 125 meters, the tower will be the highest building not only in the city but throughout Slovakia.

Pleasure for the eyes and taste buds

If you are a fan of contemporary art and architecture, visit the Nedbalka Gallery or the Danubiana Museum of Modern Art. The galleries themselves are valuable architectural works and are recommended by the most prestigious world guidebooks and tourist websites. While Danubiana, inspired by the Roman gallery, is dramatically placed on a peninsula in the middle of the Danube, Nedbalka is comparable to the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Holders of the Bratislava CARD City & Region card have a 20 percent discount on both galleries.

In the Elesko wine park near Modra, just 30 kilometres from Bratislava, you will find the perfect combination of wine and art. “The unique project of a modern wine-making complex offers the experience of quality wine, excellent gourmet cuisine and an incredible artistic experience at the Zoya Museum under one roof,” says Angelika Dang Van of the prestigious winery. Zoya Museum organises contemporary Slovak and foreign exhibitions several times a year, including one of Andy Warhol.

After admiring the large collection of art, enjoy some well-made delicacies in the local restaurant while watching the whole wine production process through a glass corridor. Elesko produces its premium wine exclusively from its own grapes, which are grown in the Small Carpathian and Tokaj regions.
