First Steam Day

Come to Rendez to enjoy spring April Saturday with railway nostalgia

The Railway Museum organizes the traditional First Steam Day again and thus opens its exhibition season this year. Bratislava City Days will be enriched by the program at the railway station Bratislava-východ on April 23, within which extraordinary steam and motor trains will also be operated.

After a two-year break, the premises of the Railway Museum in Rendez in the old locomotive depot Bratislava-východ will come to life with rides of steam and motor trains, museum tours, several exhibitions, draisine riding, demonstrations of firefighters’ intervention or presentations of tracks.

In addition to the events in the museum, you can take special trains operating on this occasion, or arrive on such a train to the First Steam Day event. Tickets for the above-mentioned trains will be sold on or near the train. Train capacity is limited. Once the capacity of the trainsets has been filled it will no longer be possible to get on.

The ride of an special steam train hauled by a 126 year old steam engine 310.433 on the line Bratislava Lamač – Bratislava Main Railway Station – Railway Museum Bratislava East according to the following timetable will be the first attraction:

For those interested in visiting the museum from Bratislava Petržalka, a historic motor train towed by a motor coach M 286.018 Túlavá on the line Bratislava Petržalka – Railway Museum Bratislava East will be dispatched according to the following timetable:

The program will also include the ride of a steam train 555.3008 Mazutka on the line Railway Museum Bratislava East – Bratislava Main Railway Station – Zohor and back according to the following timetable:

At the end of the day, the motor car M 286.018 Wanderer will take visitors on the line from the Railway Museum Bratislava East to Bratislava Main Railway Station and to Bratislava Petržalka according to the following timetable:

Transport to Rendez will also be provided free of charge by historical “R” line buses running from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., or from 10:23 a.m. to 5:08 p.m. in a 15-minute interval on the route Námestie Andrea Hlinku – Detvianska – Pri Šajbách – Engine depot I.

Therefore, if you are one of the lovers of railway nostalgia, definitely come on 23rd of April to Rendez to see the trains.

Entry, travel and attractions fees:

  • admission to the Railway Museum during the event free of charge
  • steam train ride in the morning from Lamača and the main station €4 per person (children up to 6 years free of charge, but only if accompanied by an adult)
  • one-way ride by any motor train €2 per person (children under 6 years free, but only if accompanied by an adult)
  • steam train ride to Zohor €6 per person (children up to 6 years free, but only if accompanied by an adult)
    driving at the locomotive station €2 per person
  • riding on a draisine/motor trolley €1 per person (children under 6 years free, but only if accompanied by an adult)

Children under 6 years of age do not pay the fare on extra trains, but must be accompanied by an adult and will only sit on that person’s lap while driving. No discounts, travel benefits or employee cards apply to travel. When travelling by any train, passengers are obliged to comply with the provisions of the Transport Regulations for the transport of passengers by nostalgic trains of ŽSR. Passengers on special trains are obliged to present a valid ticket or seat card for inspection at any time at the request of the staff of the organiser. All applicable anti-pandemic measures must be observed on board trains and in this respect all instructions given by the organiser and accompanying staff must be respected and followed.
