The Old Town Christmas Market

The highest Christmas tree in the city can be found this year on Hviezdoslav Square

Plenty of stalls, a decorated Christmas tree and a large Advent wreath. Traditional Old Town Christmas Market will be located on Hviezdoslav Square in the heart of Bratislava’s Old Town on November 25th.

Popular markets will offer a children’s zone, charity stalls and a rich cultural program. Inaugurated by the speech of the mayor of the Old Town, markets will last until December 20th.

A diverse program will enrich the Christmas atmosphere with traditional stands over the coming days. It will take place mainly on the stage between the zone with stands and the historical building of the Slovak National Theatre Opera.

The highest Christmas tree in Bratislava this year will grow there. It will be about 14 meters high blue spruce and it will come from the Bratislava’s New Town district.

Markets will be enriched by an accompanying programme and more than 30 stands. They will not lack snacks in the form of traditional culinary delights and drinks, there will also be a selection of various types of souvenirs, Christmas presents and craft products.

The mayor of the Old Town, together with church dignitaries, lights one candle every Sunday evening at 6 p.m. on a large-scale advent wreath in the middle of the square. Until December 17th, the accompanying cultural programme during the Christmas markets will always last from Thursday to Saturday.

Thursdays will be reserved for performances of pupils of Old Town’s primary, kindergarten and church schools, always from 4 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, concerts of famous musicians and groups of different musical styles will take place on the stage from 6 p.m.

The Old Town Advent Festival ‘Merry Old Town’, which in addition to the markets will also bring a lot of culture in several places of the Old Town, will culminate with New Year’s celebrations on December 31st.

Come and enjoy Advent in the Old Town, please yourselves with the festive mood in the heart of Bratislava.
